The Borscht Belt Museum is seeking artists to create original Borscht Belt-themed artwork for posters and other products for our 2025 season. Through striking visual design, we seek to capture the joyful spirit of summer vacations, the glamor of legendary nightlife and stand-up acts, and the iconic dining experiences that made the Borscht Belt era unforgettable.

Who Can Apply?

This call is open to U.S.-based artists working in hand-created mediums, including watercolor, oil, ink, and other traditional forms. Digital art and illustration is also welcome, provided it is not generated or enhanced by AI. Photography is not an accepted medium.

How to Apply

Artists must submit their application through the online Submission Form below. Before completing the form, please review our guidelines carefully to ensure eligibility and understanding of the requirements.

Submission Requirements:

  • Submit 2-3 images of existing work that best represent your artistic style and level of work you would plan to produce for the commission. These samples do not need to be Borscht Belt-themed but should reflect the aesthetic you would bring to this project.

  • Submit a brief written description explaining your approach to the project and how your artwork will portray the aesthetic, history or spirit of the Borscht Belt era.

Selected artists will be asked to create a rough sketch before final approval and contract agreement.

April 7, 2025

What Commissioned Artists Receive:

  • A commission payment for your work

  • Free admission to the museum, Borscht Belt Fest, and other museum-sponsored events

  • A featured artist section on our website, plus a blog post and subscriber newsletter spotlight
