Job Title: Director of Operations

Location: 90 Canal Street in Ellenville, NY

Position Type: 35-40 hrs/week, flexible. Contract

Compensation: $54,000-62,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Location: Mostly on-site.

Start Date: As soon as possible, flexible

About the role: The Director of Operations manages the museum’s daily operations, including the front desk and gift shop, and coordinates public programming, external communications and volunteers. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Staffing the museum during opening hours.

  • Managing and recruiting volunteer docents. 

  • Crafting communications, including email blasts, social media posts and managing the museum’s public email account. 

  • Scheduling interviews for the museum’s Oral History Project and coordinating volunteers who conduct oral history interviews.

  • Managing the museum’s small but growing collection of ephemera. 

  • Programming live events at the museum.

  • Managing the museum’s gift shop, including overseeing inventory.

  • Shipping museum merchandise to e-commerce customers.

  • Coordinating repairs and physical improvements to the museum building.

  • Other duties as needed, including occasional participation in off-site events.

Requirements: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to take direction and work independently

  • Ability to prioritize tasks amid a large workload

  • Social media fluency (graphics, language, etc.)

  • Ability to engage with the public courteously and positively

  • Interest in the subject matter 

  • Ability to use Google docs, payment platforms like Square and Donorbox, mass email platforms like Mailchimp and website design programs like SquareSpace.

Job Title:  Outreach & Administrative Coordinator


Position Type: Part-time, with Full-Time closer to the date, Contract

Compensation: $15,000 - 20,000 commensurate with experience & qualifications

Location: Remote, with occasional travel to the Hudson Valley/ Ellenville leading up to the

festival and required on-site presence during the festival weekend July 25-27.

Start Date: As soon as possible, flexible

Overview:

Borscht Belt Fest, an annual celebration of Jewish-American culture through comedy, music,

cuisine, and panel discussions, seeks an Outreach & Administrative Coordinator to expand

community engagement and audience participation. This role focuses on relationship-building

with Jewish community centers, synagogues, Hillel chapters, and other key organizations to

increase attendance and accessibility.

Outreach:

• Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage diverse Jewish communities,

including young families, elders, observant Jews, young professionals, and non-Jewish

communities.

• Establish relationships with Jewish organizations, senior centers, and community groups

to coordinate group visits and increase participation.

• Organize and manage group visits, including coordinating logistics for bus tours from

New York metro areas and other locations.

• Work closely with festival leadership to align outreach efforts with programming and

community needs.

• Collaborate with volunteers and ambassadors to strengthen festival visibility and

engagement.

• Maintain a database of community partners and track outreach efforts for reporting and

evaluation.

• Ensure accessibility efforts for attendees with limited transportation or mobility needs

Administrative

• Assist with vendor outreach, communication, and contract management.

• Support festival logistics, including scheduling, permits, and event coordination.

• Help with general administrative tasks such as email correspondence, document

organization, and data entry.

• Help coordinate volunteer efforts and assist in on-site event management.

• Provide support as needed in the weeks leading up to the festival and during the event

Weekend.

Qualifications:

• Experience in outreach, community engagement, or event planning, preferably within

Jewish cultural or nonprofit organizations.

• Strong relationship-building and communication skills.

• Knowledge of Jewish cultural, religious, and community dynamics a plus.

• Ability to manage logistics for group visits and coordinate transportation efforts.

• Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently and collaboratively.

• Passion for preserving and celebrating Jewish culture and history.

Job Title: PR, Marketing & Social Media Coordinator

Position Type: Part-time, Contract

Compensation: $8,000 - 10,000

Location: Remote, travel to the Hudson Valley/ Ellenville leading up to the festival and required

Start date: Mid- April

Overview:

Borscht Belt Fest is looking for a dynamic PR, Marketing & Social Media Coordinator to

enhance the festival’s visibility and attract a diverse audience. This role is responsible for

executing strategic marketing campaigns, managing social media engagement, and fostering

press relations to expand the festival’s reach.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy across digital, print, and

social media platforms.

• Manage festival social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, etc.), creating engaging

content that highlights festival events, performers, and community impact.

• Build relationships with Jewish and mainstream media outlets to secure press coverage.

• Draft press releases, media pitches, and promotional content to generate buzz.

• Collaborate with partners and influencers to amplify festival promotions.

• Analyze marketing performance and adjust strategies for maximum audience

engagement.

• Coordinate email marketing efforts and website updates to keep audiences informed.

Qualifications:

• Experience in marketing, public relations, social media management, or event promotion.

• Strong storytelling skills with the ability to craft compelling content that resonates with

diverse audiences.

• Proficiency in social media tools, analytics, and digital advertising.

• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

• Creative thinker with strong attention to detail and audience engagement strategies.
